From to whom much is given, much is required.
Every time I hear that insipid utterance I want to barf … and on the shoes of the Liberal chanting it as if it ennobles their entitlement cause. Let’s face it. The operative word, here, is “given,” which has become synonymous with earnin the Leftist hymnal.
Hell, I agree. If something is GIVEN to someone, then, it would stand to reason that one side of the quid pro quo has been left bereft of warranted and egalitarian gains. However, ever since the emergence of Obama’s class warfare and the anarchic chants of the Occupy Wall Streeters, little daylight has existed between the recipients of giving and those earning by the sweat of their brow. Those claiming to be the beneficiaries of the “common man” – the ninety-nine-percenters—have dared to liken toil with entitlement and have castigated those who produce, calling them greedy, and exalt their mooching brethren, proclaiming that they are next to godliness and deserving of a living, just because they are.
While Mitt Romney is being excoriated for having earned and spent his own millions, Barack Obama and his unelected brood jet around the globe spending the confiscated millions of taxpayers. And, while Mitt Romney has a record of fiscal prudence, Barack Obama is pledging trillions against a GDP that is dwindling by comparison and by the year. Though Obama is GIVEN the dollars that he carelessly spends, little is demanded of him in return. At the same time, NOTHING is given to Romney, save the hell for daring to be rich…and White…but much is demanded, including that he relinquish his wealth and a legacy that goes far beyond skin deep.
This brings me to another point that gives me heartburn.
So often we hear corporate executives espousing their companies’ charitable gestures, claiming that, as good corporate citizens, it is in their best interest to give back to their community. Give back! What the hell is giving back? Did they steal something from those communities, or did they conduct fair and equitable business transactions, commanding a fair price for the provided goods and services? If so, then why this notion of giving back? Answer: They are placating and currying political favor with words that end up eating those who spoke them.
This language does no one any favors. Aside from perpetuating the notion of evil corporations bilking its markets of billions beyond what is fair, it also helps to galvanize demands from those to whom something is thought to have been given.
Company charities are not giving back. They simply are companies trying to buy customer loyalty by plowing their gains into the lives of those needing help in the communities. None of this is owed by these companies, which is why they should be extolled and not pilloried for having crossed that line of decency to earn those evil profits. After all, without profits, there would be nothing available for giving…or, better yet, for hiring. But, to admit that would cross another line, called common sense, where the citizenry is as thin as Pam Anderson’s t-shirts.
Many of our institutions are failing us, and at the heart of these teetering giants is the institution of education. Our children may enter and leave schools with the ability to build web pages and social media platforms, but they lack the wisdom of a shithouse rat. To expect them to understand the factual nuances of micro or macroeconomics, as well as business practices, is like asking a chicken to watch a game of jacks and understand what he sees. Worse, yet, they live with parents who are more drawn to Dancing With The Stars or American Idol than they are to the congressional sausage-making in Washington that is creating a tsunami of macroeconomics that could leave the entire global adrift in debt-laden chaos. And, asking them to pay attention, educate themselves, and muster the maturity and brinkmanship warranted in these times is as unrealistic as keeping a fart in the back of a speeding pick-up truck.
So, if it is better to give than to receive, why the hell are we burdened with so many with THEIR hands in OUR pockets? And why the hell aren’t we demanding more from those to whom we are GIVING so much through entitlements? Huh?!!
